Learn How To Get Common Candy Stains Out Of Your Carpet

Posted on: 12 October 2022

Halloween is almost here, and that means that children will soon be coming home with lots of sweet treats from Halloween parties and trick-or-treating. Unfortunately, these sweet treats can feel like a bad trick if some of those goodies wind up on your carpet, leaving a stain or spot behind. Here are a few tips to help you remove tough stains on your own, prior to calling in a carpet steam cleaning company.

Chocolate

Chocolate is one of the easiest stains to lift from carpets if you know how to properly remove it. As soon as you spot a chocolate stain on your carpet, dab at the spot with a soft cloth dampened in cool water. Do not use hot water or rub the stain, as both of these can spread the stain. Once you have lifted as much of the chocolate as possible, mix a squirt of liquid dish soap with cool water and continue dabbing at the stain. Once you have removed the stain, dab at the spot with a clean, cool cloth to remove the soap residue.

Caramel

Caramel is sticking and lifting this sticky treat can be a bit tricky. When you are looking to remove caramel from your carpet, you should mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water. The warm water helps to lift the caramel, so it is important to use warm water. As you spray the mixture, gently dab the area with a paper towel to lift away the caramel. Continue the process until all of the candy is removed from your carpet.

Gummy Candy

Gummy candy can be difficult to remove from carpet, especially if it has been stepped on. If you have large pieces of gummy candy on the carpet, place ice in a baggie, and then rub the ice on the gummy candy. This will harden the gummy candy, allowing you to slowly scrape it away with a butter knife. Once you have removed the large chunks of gummy candy, mix water as hot as you can stand to touch with a drop of liquid dish soap. Dab at the leftover gummy candy and stain. The hot water will liquefy the gummy candy, helping to remove it from the carpet, while the dish soap will help to lift the stain. Continue this process until the stain is lifted, and then wipe away any remaining soap residue with a clean, water-dampened cloth.
